Hurricane Maria Political Design
These three photos represent the struggles Puerto Rico faces from the economic crisis and Hurricane Maria. Even though Puerto Rico it is governed by the United States and has no constitutional rights and limited voting rights, the parent country has done very little with the turmoiled "state". The left design represents how after Hurricane Maria the majority of Puerto Rico was at a loss of electricity for an entire year. The middle design shows the colorful streets of San Juan and the ground swell developed from the Hurricane. As you can see, the United States delivered sand bags offering little help in preventing the hurricane. The right design shows an American helicopter air dropping bank bonds to an in need Puerto Rico. However, these bonds were deemed junk status soon after issuance and is represented by their landing in the trashcan. These bonds have only increased the debt crisis after the hurricane.
